How to Choose the Best Design

As any process in our lives, website development can be divided into stages. Once all details of a project have been discussed, and a technical specialization has been signed off, here comes the most difficult stage of a project for clients. They receive the conceptual design of the future website, and now they have to take the decision on it at their own risk. Naturally, that decision has a significant influence on the future of the web project.

Sometimes it takes several weeks, or even months in particular cases, to approve the design and it can be longer than all other stages put together. The client faces a question how to choose the right design. In this situation we can give only one piece of advice – think who you make the website for and what are its aims. In the majority of cases, the answer is to attract new clients and to retain the existing ones. It means that not only you have to like the design, but you target audience as well. The clients should follow less their own likes and dislikes, within reasonable limits of course, since very often they rely wholly on their taste. Finally, when the website hasn't met their expectations, they can't understand at what point they've made a mistake.

A worse thing is when the clients try to agree on the design with all staff members, spouses, relatives, friends, etc. Apparently, they may show them the mock-up, but they shouldn't rely on the opinion of people who don't belong to your target audience. Otherwise, the clients may end up with a project that their colleagues, family, and friends will like, but it won't work towards its goals. And the website development, in this case, will last for long months.

Most professional web development companies ask the clients to fill out the brief before starting the project, and there's a question on the target audience, and it's not a formality. Using this information, designers can offer you the concept suitable for your potential and existing clients. And it's up to you what is more important for you – to demonstrate your personal tastes or to increase the number of the visitors to your website with the help of quality and beauty of the design.

Let’s fill the brief, shall we?
